Gloria Garcia

(b.1942)

Santa Clara Pueblo native, Gloria Garcia, was born in 1942.  She learned the traditional fundamentals of gathering the materials, preparation of those materials and hand-coiled construction techniques of pottery from fellow Pueblo members.  Her sgrafitto designs are her own, not stenciled.  She draws inspiration from her culture, nature and from her own creative process.  Her masterworks are signed “Goldenrod” and completed with a traditional outdoor firing.  Garcia has won numerous honors and accolades throughout her lifetime and her work can be found in museums including the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian and private collections worldwide.
