Richard Gorman, born in Keams Canyon, Arizona, but raised on First Mesa in Polacca, Arizona, currently resides near Holbrook.  Gorman is welcome in both the Hopi and Navajo tribes as his mother is Hopi and his father is Navajo.

His interest in art started during his tour of duty while serving in the Army and stationed in Germany.  While there, he discovered the art of Bavarian wood carvers and imagined a carving career for himself once discharged.  His art is influenced by his culture as well as other artists including painter Helen Hardin, painter/carver Neil David, Sr., the renowned potter, painter and jeweler Charles Loloma, and others.  Richard has shown his work in various mediums and at various shows around the country including the Heard Museum in Phoenix, the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis, the Native American Film Festival in San Francisco, and the Kansas Indian Market.  At several of these and other shows he has won awards for his work.
