Artist: Raymond Knaub (b. 1940)
Description: Oil | Image Size: 18”h x 24”w; Framed Size: 23 ½”h x 29 ½” wpainting
The brilliant colors of the New Mexico sky and landscape are dramatically captured in this Knaub painting. The reds of the mountain frame the adobe building that is bathed in a bright ray of sunshine that captures the atmosphere and spirit of the scene.
Born into a Nebraska farming family in Scottsbluff, bonding with the land was inevitable. However, little did Knaub know then, its depth. His athletic prowess earned him a scholarship in Texas where he studied math and engineering. By chance, he took a drawing class and he, for the first time, envisioned through an artist’s eye the landscapes of his youth. He returned to his native Nebraska and completed his undergraduate studies as a Fine Arts major at the University of Nebraska and then pursued his graduate studies at the University of Colorado.
Many an artist struggles at first finding their own niche and Knaub was no different. Eventually through self-discovery and reflection he got where he needed to be realizing that he is a landscape artist with deeply embedded rural roots. Knaub has painted many landscape subjects since then and often returns to rural America. His work has been widely exhibited throughout the country and abroad.
